The challenge of this display was to get people excited about dirt and to bring attention to the 100th anniversary of the soil survey in Washington Statenot an easy task. Working closely with the project coordinator, David Mitchell of Interactive Consulting researched the issue and created the concept behind this educational display. Highlighting a large photo of a child enjoying dirt, the display presents the benefits of soil surveys, an illustration showing soil composition, anchored by a timeline across the bottom showing the history of soil surveys. The exhibit has enjoyed statewide attention, being displayed in the capital building in Olympia and many other communities across Washington.
